Somerset left-arm spinner Jack Leach is set to miss England's first Test match against Pakistan later this month after the county confirmed he has broken the thumb on his bowling hand.
The 26-year-old was injured while warming up with his Somerset team-mates on Monday, before the final day of the Division One match against Hampshire.
England's new national selector Ed Smith is set to name the squad on Tuesday to face Pakistan from 24 May.
Leach made his Test debut in March.
Somerset posted on social media:, external "Jack Leach has sustained a broken left thumb. It's too early to know how long he will be out for at the moment."
Leach was struck on the thumb while taking part in a fielding drill with head coach Jason Kerr.
The game with Hampshire eventually ended in a draw, with Leach's England teammate James Vince making an unbeaten 201 for the visitors.
The Taunton club have won two and drawn two of their opening four County Championship matches of the season, and are second in the Division One table.
