England's Alex Hales will miss the rest of the one-day international against India because of a side injury.

The 29-year-old batsman missed Thursday's eight-wicket defeat in the first ODI but would have been replaced in the side by Ben Stokes regardless.

He will be out for three to four weeks, meaning Middlesex batsman David Malan will stay with the England squad for Saturday's match at Lord's.

Hales averaged 48 as England lost their Twenty20 series against India 2-1.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Sam Curran has been released to play for county Surrey against Sussex on Friday, before returning to the England squad on Saturday.
