County Championship: Lancashire in charge against Derbyshire after Josh Bohannon's maiden century

Lancashire all-rounder Josh Bohannon helped his side earn a first-innings lead over Derbyshire at Old Trafford by hitting his maiden century.

After a lost morning because of rain, the Division Two leaders moved on from their overnight 20-1 to 269-2, to build a lead of 25, with more to come.

England's Keaton Jennings was the only wicket to fall in the day, for 38.

But Bohannon went on to finish on 150, sharing an unbroken stand of 196 with Liam Livingstone, who closed on 70.

Bohannon's first century came in only his second game since being moved up the order to number three, in a bid to solve the problems caused by Haseeb Hameed's loss of form.

A frustrating second day for T20 Blast Finals Day newcomers Derbyshire ended with a late injury scare for seamer Ravi Rampaul, who went down heavily but stayed on the pitch to see out the day.

With play not getting underway until 13:40 BST, there were only 64 overs possible, but the Red Rose took a major step toward securing promotion back to Division One this week.

Fourth-placed Glamorgan are now looking unlikely to beat Worcestershire at New Road - and, if that proves the case, it would enable Lancashire to go up on home soil, if they can now build a big lead and complete victory against Derbyshire.

Lancs centurion Josh Bohannon told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"It is a bit surreal but I'm really chuffed. Everyone understands that a hundred is a great milestone for an individual but you have to kick on for the team and carry on batting.

"One of the first things we talked about at the start of the season was, if you get a hundred and you get in on a good pitch, an you get to 150 or make it a double century?

"Obviously Dane Vilas has done it this season. Hopefully I can kick on again and get us in a great position to win this game.

"I've been bumped up the order from eight to seven and then from seven to five and did OK and when I spoke to Dane he said he thought I deserved a bit more of a chance. I always felt I just needed one score there and I'd be fine and thankfully it's come."

Derbyshire all-rounder Anuj Dal:

"Thursday will be a massive day for us. We need to be in a position where we can't lose.

"We need to be in a position to scavenge what we can from the game.

"It's important when you're playing against a good side like Lancashire to show what you have in the locker room.

"Hopefully if we can get a few wickets early on we will be massively in the game."
