England opener Dom Sibley is to miss Warwickshire's next two County Championship matches after fracturing a finger while fielding in last week's win against Nottinghamshire.

The 25-year-old will miss the game against Essex - starting on Thursday - and the trip to Durham from 29 April.

But it is hoped he will recover in time for the start of England's Test series against New Zealand in June.

Meanwhile, ex-England batsman Jonathan Trott has rejoined as a consultant.

Trott, who won five trophies with the Bears and played in 52 Tests, retired as a player at the end of the 2018 season but is returning to help the men's team by mentoring players and assisting the backroom team.

The 39-year-old, who has had coaching spells with England and Kent, said he was "very excited" by his return to Edgbaston.

"It means a huge amount to return," he added. "There's a lot of talented players in the squad, some of whom I know well from my time within the playing ranks."

Sibley's injury will be "reviewed" by medical teams at the end of the month.

Sibley did not bat in either of the Bears' innings at Trent Bridge, where they chased 333 batting last to beat Notts by three wickets.

He made 29 and 0 not out in his two innings in Warwickshire's drawn County Championship opener against Derbyshire.
