Glamorgan 186-8 (20 overs): Lloyd 44; Higgins 2-27

New Zealander Glenn Phillips' incredible efforts with the bat led Gloucestershire to a 34 run win over Glamorgan in Bristol in the T20 Blast.

Phillips hammered 94 not out off just 41 balls to delight the home crowd.

Benny Howell's aggressive 53 off 33 helped take Gloucestershire to a formidable 216-2 from their 20 overs.

Glamorgan started brightly as David Lloyd hit 44 but fell away to finish on 186-8 as they lost wickets at regular intervals throughout.

Gloucestershire now have four wins from eight of their 14 group games and Glamorgan just two at the same stage, with both sides having two games rained off.

Miles Hammond (35) and Chris Dent (29) set the tempo as the home side reached 95-2 after 10 overs.

Howell upped the scoring rate still further before an incredible final assault from Phillips who hit nine fours and six sixes in a brutal demolition of the Glamorgan bowlers.

An asking rate of close to 11 an over was always going to be demanding but Lloyd attacked in style with his 44 coming off just 22 balls, before he holed out at long-on to a Howell full-toss.

That left the responsibility on Marnus Labuschagne, but the star Australian was bowled by David Payne for 33 off 21.

Four sixes from Dan Douthwaite in his 35 helped limit the damage for the Welsh side, but Payne, Howell and Ryan Higgins took two wickets apiece as Gloucestershire strengthened their top four placing.

Gloucestershire all-rounder Benny Howell said:

"Glenn hit a six on about 40 and said 'I'm getting a hundred here' and when he says something, it usually happens. It was a shame he didn't quite make it.

"I think Glamorgan's total was an okay score but the wind going towards the short side made it very difficult to contain from one end."

Glamorgan vice-captain David Lloyd told BBC Sport Wales:

"I thought they played extremely well and Phillips was just one of those knocks you have to accept, he was great to watch.

"With the bat we were looking good and got off to a decent start, in our minds we thought it was doable but we lost too many wickets and they bowled pretty well at the end.

"It was a fantastic knock from Phillips but on my behalf it was annoying because I did the hard work, I would have liked to stay there and play the role he did."
