Royal London One-Day Cup: Glamorgan v Yorkshire

Yorkshire Vikings 230 (48.5 overs): Tattersall 53, Waite 44; J Cooke 3-40, Weighell 3-55

Glamorgan 226-8 (50 overs): Selman 92, Rutherford 58; Hill 3-49, Revis 2-43

Yorkshire (2 pts) won by 4 runs

There were celebrations for both sides at Sophia Gardens as Yorkshire snatched a dramatic One-Day Cup win but Glamorgan still topped the group.

Yorkshire's fight-back earned them a quarter-final trip to Essex, while Glamorgan have a home semi-final.

The inexperienced Yorkshire side produced some real shocks as Glamorgan, chasing 231 to win, slipped from 180-1 to finish on 226-8.

Nick Selman's 92 anchored the innings but George Hill claimed 3-49.

The last-ball finish meant that Glamorgan still had the best run-rate of the three teams on 10 points, with Surrey in second and Yorkshire having to travel in the knock-out stages despite also finishing on 10.

Yorkshire recovered superbly from 132-7 to reach 230, thanks to Jonathan Tattersall (53 off 62) and the aggressive hitting of number nine Matthew Waite (44 off 42).

Glamorgan's bowlers were on top in the middle overs, taking wickets regularly with Andrew Salter (1-34 in 10) bowling tightly and fellow spinner Steve Reingold claiming the key wicket of Yorkshire captain Gary Ballance, who played on for 12.

But Tattersall and Waite counter-attacked in style with a stand of 84 in 11.1 overs to reach the best first-innings total of the competition in Cardiff as Glamorgan's bowlers struggled to contain the run-rate for the first time, not helped by some marginal fielding lapses.

Joe Cooke (3-40), Michael Hogan (2-30) and James Weighell (3-55) were the main wicket-takers.

Glamorgan made a composed start as Hamish Rutherford (58) and Selman put together an unhurried partnership of 121 inside 28 overs, before Rutherford was bowled by Ben Coad (1-30).

Despite fielding England spinner Dom Bess, Yorkshire could not make further inroads as Selman and Steve Reingold (25) added 59.

All-rounder Hill, 20, turned the game dramatically as he claimed three wickets in the space of two overs to put Glamorgan under real pressure.

Then Matthew Revis, 19, chipped in with two further wickets, while Matthew Waite was left to defend 11 in the last over and prevented Glamorgan from finding the boundary.

Yorkshire's trip to Chelmsford will be on Saturday 14 August, while Glamorgan are back at Sophia Gardens for their semi-final on Monday 16 August.

Glamorgan coach David Harrison told BBC Sport Wales:

"We were pretty disappointed to lose today, to get Yorkshire 130-7 and then have a partnership of nearly 90, and then to be in a position to chase down the total with nine wickets left.

"But it's a strange one because we're through as top of the group, so it's a great achievement for the team.

"Hamish and Nick played really well to put us in a good position, we couldn't quite get over the line but we're still really happy.

"It was a nightmare to try to follow everything, we kept an eye on the other scores but our main focus was to try to win today. Unfortunately we didn't do that but we're really pleased to have a home semi-final."

Yorkshire coach Richard Pyrah told BBC Radio Leeds:

"A great achievement to qualify with 13 first-team players unavailable and (club captain) Steve Patterson used in a different role, so it was pretty much a new side.

"It's been a tough group and it makes it even more special with the performance like that in a great game of cricket on a really tough, used pitch which had been glued.

"We got ourselves in a position where we could win with 230 on the board and the discipline we showed with the ball was outstanding.

"We showed great skill for the whole 50 overs and the character those young lads showed was unbelievable.".
