Glamorgan have signed India opening batter Shubman Gill for the final four games of their Championship season.

Gill, 22, has played 11 Tests, including one against England in July, as well as nine one-day internationals.

Glamorgan have received visa clearance for Gill who comes in for overseas batters Marnus Labuschagne and Colin Ingram, who are unavailable in September.

New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel has also been signed to replace Michael Neser.

Gill, who plays domestic cricket for Punjab, averages 30 in Test match cricket, but 53 in all first-class matches.

He hit his first century for his country with 130 against Zimbabwe in a recent one-day international.

Gill played for Gujarat Titans as they won the 2022 Indian Premier League and has previously represented Kolkata Knight Riders.

"I'm looking forward to joining up with the Glamorgan squad as they push for promotion [from Division Two]," said Gill.

"I have always enjoyed playing here and I'm excited to experience county cricket and the challenges it brings.

"I would like to thank Glamorgan and BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India] for the opportunity, and I can't wait to get started for Glamorgan and test myself during a crucial part of the season."

Glamorgan have home matches against Worcestershire and Derbyshire, and away games against Middlesex and Sussex, as they push for promotion to Division One of the County Championship.

They are five points behind second-placed Middlesex with a game in hand.

"To bring a player in of his quality and international experience to bat in our top order is a real bonus," said Glamorgan director of cricket Mark Wallace.

"We have had some real quality from Marnus and Colin this season and we have looked for a like-for-like replacement.

"Shubman has got excellent quality, he is going to be a fantastic player and to have him coming to Glamorgan at this time in his career is great for us."
