Mickey Arthur: Derbyshire head of cricket extends contract until end of 2025

Derbyshire head of cricket Mickey Arthur has signed a three-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of the 2025 campaign.

The former Australia, South Africa and Pakistan coach, 54, was appointed in November 2021 after leaving Sri Lanka.

"We're delighted to extend Mickey's deal," chairman Ian Morgan told the club website.

"He's started an exciting project and wants to bring success and silverware back to our county."

Derbyshire achieved a club record nine wins in the 2022 group stage, before being beaten by Somerset in the quarter-finals, while six players hit more than 1,000 runs across all formats last season.

Morgan added: "When we appointed Mickey we saw it as a statement of our ambition, and the developments made in the last 12 months have highlighted our potential as a club."

Derbyshire have not won a major trophy since the 1990s - although they were County Championship Division Two champions in 2012.

Former batsman Arthur believes the club is heading in the right direction: "The way Derbyshire is run from top to bottom has impressed me, everyone from the players to the supervisory board and off-field staff have bought into our project and mentality, and I've been backed to achieve our goals.

"Supporters have made me feel instantly welcome, we have a squad full of potential and I'm looking forward to developing it and challenging for silverware at the very top of county cricket."
