Australia crowned World Test Championship winners

Australia won the World Test Championship by ruthlessly dismantling India on the fifth day of the final.

Chasing a world-record target of 444, India started the day on 164-3 but their hopes were soon dashed as Scott Boland removed Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja early on at The Oval.

Mitchel Starc and Nathan Lyon ran through the lower order to dismiss India for 234, securing a 209-run win.

Australia are the second Test title winners, after New Zealand in 2021.

It means Australia carry the crown of being the best Test team in the world into the most eagerly-anticipated Ashes series in a generation.

The first match in the five-Test series against England begins at Edgbaston on Friday.
