Worcestershire have signed Lancashire batter Rob Jones on a three-year deal from the 2024 season.

The 27-year-old has spent the past seven years at Old Trafford, scoring more than 1,700 runs in 46 first-class matches to date.

Jones scored the third century of his career in Lancashire's 46-run defeat by Essex in their latest County Championship match last week.

He described his move to New Road as an "exciting new chapter of my career".

Jones' arrival is the first under new chief executive Ashley Giles as the Pears rebuild their squad for next season following the recent departures of fast bowlers Josh Tongue and Dillon Pennington to Nottinghamshire, while another seamer, Pat Brown, is joining Derbyshire.

Giles gave Jones his first-class debut in 2016 when he was head coach and director of cricket at Old Trafford.

"I've known Rob for a number of years, and apart from being a really good and adaptable cricketer, he is also a fantastic young man who will add to our dressing room," Giles said., external

Worcestershire head coach Alan Richardson said he was "very excited" about Jones' signing, adding that he is an "outstanding character".

"We knew of Rob for a little while, and that he was potentially available, and it's moved quite quickly," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"He can play all formats and is an exceptional fielder, and hopefully we can give him plenty of opportunity to play some cricket for us and realise his potential."
