Derbyshire have named Ben Smith as their new batting coach.

The 51-year-old replaces former England batter Ian Bell, who had worked as a batting consultant since April 2022.

Smith most recently worked as Northamptonshire's batting coach, a role he held for two years before leaving in October.

During a 20-year playing career, ex-Leicestershire and Worcestershire batter Smith scored more that 29,500 runs in all formats.

"At this stage in our squad's development, it's important our batters can receive constant support, day in, day out, and that's what Ben will provide for us," Derbyshire head of cricket Mickey Arthur told the club website., external

"Ian Bell has done an excellent job over the last couple of seasons, but now he's ready for the next stage of his coaching journey and we wish him all the best for the future."
