England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a toe injury that also ended his Champions Trophy campaign.

The 29-year-old was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in November's auction but has been forced to withdraw from the T20 tournament, with South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder named as his replacement.

Durham's Carse struggled with blisters and cuts to a toe on his left foot during England opening Champions Trophy match against Australia in February and was subsequently ruled out of the rest of the competition.

It is a disappointing setback for the South Africa-born seamer, who has impressed for England across all three formats this winter.

After taking 27 wickets at 19.85 in his first five Tests, England will hope Carse can recover in time for a busy summer of Test cricket in which they face Zimbabwe in May before a five-match series against India starts in June.

Meanwhile, Mulder has been tasked with filling the gap left by Carse at Sunrisers.

The seam-bowling all-rounder, 27, was part of the Proteas team beaten by New Zealand in the Champions Trophy semi-finals and has played 11 T20s, 25 one-day internationals and 18 Tests for South Africa in total.

The IPL begins on 22 March and Sunrisers get started a day later with a home match against Jofra Archer's Rajasthan Royals.
