Somerset have signed Scotland paceman Charlie Cassell on a short-term deal to play in the One-Day Cup.

The 25-year-old joins ahead of their match with Durham on Wednesday and will be available until the conclusion of the competition's semi-finals.

Cassell made his Scotland debut on 22 July against Oman and took a record-breaking 7-21 in just 5.4 overs, the best of any debutant bowler in a one-day international.

The fast bowler will bolster Somerset's One-Day Cup team, with Migael Pretorius called up to the South Africa Test squad and Riley Meredith playing in the Hundred.

“Charlie will add an additional dimension to the bowling unit and his arrival will enable us to manage our bowlers across a demanding playing and travelling schedule, giving them all the best chance to be fresh and showcase their skills," said Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry.
