Manchester Originals missed a great chance to record their first win in this year's men's The Hundred as a Harry Brook-inspired Northern Superchargers held on for a 14-run victory at Headingley.

Chasing 168 after Brook's 58, the Originals were 88-0 with 50 balls to go when Phil Salt was run out after failing to ground his bat or feet when attempting a quick single.

Matty Hurst hit a brilliant 78 before being run out by a piece of quick thinking by Superchargers wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran, who was alert enough to discard a glove before throwing down the stumps with the Originals opener short of his ground.

None of the other visiting batters reached double figures, with spinner Mitchell Santner grabbing two wickets in two deliveries and seamer Matthew Potts conceding only five runs in his final set of five balls.

Superchargers captain Brook had helped the hosts reach 167-5, the England batter hitting nine fours in his 58 off 33 deliveries.

He was ably supported by Graham Clarke (33) and Adam Hose (29) as the hosts recovered from a bad start when Fazalhaq Farooqi trapped Ollie Robinson lbw off the first ball of the match.

The result moved the Superchargers up to third, while the Originals are at the foot of the table following defeats in all four matches so far.

'Our bowling was unbelievable' - what they said

Hero of the match Harry Brook: "I felt like they were favourites at the end, but our bowling was unbelievable.

"It was a nice pitch, we didn't have the powerplay we wanted but the boys stuck at it. The outfield here is so quick, I didn't feel like I had to hit many in the air, just pierce the gaps and thankfully it worked.

"We always have that 'take wickets' mentality, I tossed the ball to Mitchell and Rash and they got a couple of wickets between them. I was really happy with the way the boys went about it.

"I had so much faith in Pottsy and Dwarsh at the end, and they nailed it. Pottsy has been so good with the yorkers and he has a high ceiling."

On Superchargers coach Freddie Flintoff: "It's awesome, he is such a legend. I have spent a lot of time with him, especially on the golf course although he can improve in that department! He is a legend and has so much respect."
