Vasconcelos signs new two-year Northants deal

Long-serving Northamptonshire opening batter Ricardo Vasconcelos has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The 27-year-old South-African born left-hander made his debut for Northants in 2018 and has scored more than 7,000 runs across all formats in nearly 200 matches.

This season he has scored 418 runs in the second division of the County Championship with one century - against Kent in Canterbury at the end of June - and one half-century.

He has also hit more than 300 runs in this years T20 Blast, helping the Steelbacks qualify for the quarter-finals, where they will play Surrey on 3 September.

Vasconcelos' new deal keeps him at Wantage Road until 2027.

"I'm really happy for Vasco and the club as he's been here for a long time," Northants head coach Darren Lehmann said., external

"We're very happy that he wants to stay here and he wants to keep getting better.

"We know that he would like more runs but we're going to keep working hard together so that he can achieve that."
