Somerset have named James Rew as captain for their One-Day Cup team this season.

The 21-year-old wicketkeeper has scored 1,106 runs at an average of 39.50 in 31 list A matches for his county.

"I feel very honoured to have been asked to captain the Metro One-Day Cup side this year. It is a great privilege as I love representing this club in all formats and I'm delighted to be able to lead such a talented and close-knit group," he told the club's website, external.

"I've already been lucky enough to captain the County Championship side earlier this season, and I loved the experience, so I am looking forward to leading a slightly younger side."

Rew has also scored 3,199 runs in 53 red-ball matches at an average of 42.09 and has hit 134 runs in four T20s, at an average of 44.66.

Somerset announced on Tuesday that Josh Davey, Ben Green and Kasey Aldridge would leave the club at the end of the season.

They begin this season's One-Day Cup away to Middlesex on Wednesday.
