Essex and England Under-19s all-rounder Luc Benkenstein has signed a new three-year contract with the club.
The 19-year-old has extended his current deal to tie himself to Chelmsford until 2027.
“It’s very pleasing to be able to extend Luc’s stay here," said Essex director of cricket Anthony McGrath. "His performances in the 1st XI have more than merited this extension."
Benkenstein has made 11 List A appearances for Essex since making his debut against Durham in 2021, as well as making 11 appearances in the T20 side.
He is the son of former Durham star Dale Benkenstein, who now coaches Lancashire, and although born in South Africa he is English qualified.
Benkenstein has made 15 appearances for England Under-19s over the last 11 months, and played in the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa in January.
“It’s been a fantastic experience so far," he said. "Earning a spot in the Essex T20 side was particularly special. Now, my focus is on keeping going to ensure I can become the best cricketer I can, and I’m confident this is the right place to do that."
