Essex wicketkeeper Simon Fernandes has signed a two-year contract with the club.
The 25-year-old has played 16 One-Day Cup matches for the club over the last two summers, scoring 173 runs and taking 23 catches.
He made his first class debut earlier this month for the MCC against Zimbabwe in Harare when he scored a career-best 71.
"Simon's journey is a brilliant example of hard work and perseverance paying off," said Essex director of cricket Chris Silverwood.
"Since coming through our second XI, he has put in some great performances throughout the One Day Cup competition, where he has become a key part of the side."
