Player of the match Darcey Carter admitted the low scoring was "not ideal" as Scotland started their Emerging Nations Trophy campaign with a 15-run victory over Uganda.

But the opener was pleased with the way her side defending their total of 115 for nine at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok as their opponents fell short for the loss of six wickets.

Eight leading associate members are taking part in the inaugural tournament in Thailand as Scotland prepare for January's T20 World Cup qualifier in Nepal.

After fellow opener Ailsa Lister was bowled by Concy Aweko for a duck, the Scots found themselves at 53-3, but the runs started to flow when Carter was joined by Megan McColl.

The latter struck six boundaries in her 22-ball 32 in a 50-run partnership from just 32 deliveries, but the Scots suffered a late collapse, scoring just six runs for the loss of six wickets, after McColl was dismissed at 103-3.

In response, Uganda reached the halfway mark at 58-1, but when Abtaha Maqsood took out Immaculate Nakisuuyi (36) and Esther Iloku (20) in consecutive overs, Uganda's run rate plummeted.

Carter, who top scored with 54, told Cricket Scotland: "It was obviously a bit difficult there at the end of our batting innings and not ideal, but we were able to get a score on the board, which is what matters.

"I feel like we've got a bowling attack that can defend low totals. We would have liked to have got a bigger score, but we back our bowling ability to defend something like that.

"It's been good to get some runs and hopefully I can carry that on for the rest of the tournament."

Scotland's next face Tanzania on Friday.
