Chester-le-Street was the first of the day's three abandonments

The first day's play was called off in five County Championship games because of heavy rain.

Durham's Division One home game against already relegated Kent was first to go following heavy overnight rain at Chester-le-Street.

Four Division Two games were also rained off.

The Glamorgan-Gloucestershire game in Cardiff followed suit, as did Sussex's home game with Middlesex at Hove, then Yorkshire v Northamptonshire at Headingley and Leicestershire v Derbyshire.

Sussex still need four points to make sure of claiming the Division Two title, while Yorkshire need 10 points to win promotion.
