  1. Curran hits best IPL score but CSK out after defeatpublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 30 April

Chennai Super Kings' chances of reaching the Indian Premier League play-offs are over after they were beaten by four wickets by Punjab Kings despite Sam Curran's 88.

England all-rounder Curran's highest IPL score was the backbone of CSK's 190 all out but Punjab chased their target with two balls to spare even with a late stutter.

Shreyas Iyer hit a majestic 72 and opener Prabhsimran Singh 54, leaving only six to get from the last two overs.

Iyer was bowled with nine balls to go and Suryansh Shedge followed for one but Marco Jansen inside edged for four to seal victory.

Five-time champions CSK's hopes were already effectively over but their fate is now confirmed after an eighth defeat in 10 matches.

Punjab move from fifth to second and are now a point behind leaders Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Punjab Kings are well-placed in pursuit of 191. They are 88-1 at the halfway stage of the chase.

Left-handed opener Priyansh Arya is the only man out. He was caught behind for 23.

His opening partner Prabhsimran Singh remains on 40. Sheryas Iyer has 23 not out.

Punjab need 103 runs from 60 balls. A win would move them up to second and eliminate CSK.

  3. Curran hits IPL best as CSK set Kings 191published at 17:05 British Summer Time 30 April

Sam Curran hit 88 from just 47 balls - his highest score in the Indian Premier League - to help Chennai Super Kings reach 190 before being bowled out in the final over.

Curran, playing against the franchise that let him go last year, targeted the leg side, having come in at 21-1.

He struck nine fours and four sixes until he was caught behind in the 18th over.

Curran's dismissal was the first of six lost by CSK in 11 balls at the back end, including a hat-trick for leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

Chennai's total still looks a decent score on a turning pitch.

  4. Curran attempts recovery for CSKpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 30 April

Sam Curran is leading Chennai Super Kings' recovery after the loss of three early wickets.

The England all-rounder is 29 not out after 10 overs, with Chennai Super Kings 89-3.

It is the first time Curran has reached double figures in this year's tournament.

CSK were put on the back foot when Shaik Rasheed was caught for 11, Ayush Mhatre seven and Ravindra Jadeja 17.

At that stage the hosts were 48-3 inside the power play.

  5. Win or bust for CSK against Punjab Kingspublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 30 April

Chennai Super Kings' shocker of an IPL season could reach a definitive position today. Lose to Punjab Kings and the five-time champions will not be able to make the play-offs.

In truth, CSK have already started looking to next season, knowing they are out of contention.

17-year-old Ayush Mhatre gets another chance at the top of the order while mid-season signing Dewald Brevis will be given a run in the middle order.

Punjab are one of the bunch of teams at the top of the table. They start fifth but will go second with a win.

CSK are unchanged, with Sam Curran keeping his place. Glenn Maxwell has a broken finger and is out for Punjab.

Punjab have won the toss and decided to bowl.
