If I'm being generous, that nipped a little bit but Sinalo Jafta backed away and looked scared of that ball.

    Baffling decision from South Africa.

Not much time to ponder why Sinalo Jafta was sent in because she's on her way back already.

It's well bowled by Lauren Bell, full and hitting the top of middle, but it's not done a huge amount.

Jafta has just missed a straight one, really.

  3. SA 192-4published at 37 overs

Interestingly, South Africa have sent Sinalo Jafta, with an average of 12.64 and highest score of 29 in ODIs, at six.

Masterful captaincy from Nat Sciver-Brunt bringing Sophie Ecclestone on.

Why do players take Sophie Ecclestone on time and time again? She is so hard to sweep.

Marizanne Kapp is cursing on her way off and rightly so.

  6. wicket

    Kapp c Dean b Ecclestone 42 (SA 191-4)

    Media caption,

Dean takes catch from Kapp top edge at mid-on as South African walks for 42

    Sophie Ecclestone does it again!

Marizanne Kapp had drilled the previous ball through the covers for four but decides she wants to go again, this time attempting a big slog-sweep.

But in trying to hit it out of the ground, she gets a big top-edge, the ball goes a long way up and Charlie Dean settles herself underneath it at mid-on.

The ball nearly pops out but Dean clings on and Ecclestone breaks a dangerous Proteas partnership.

  7. SA 187-3published at 36 overs

Finally a dot ball as Laura Wolvaardt pushes the last delivery of the over back to Charlie Dean.

Just five singles from the over, very nearly a wicket but the partnership, now up to 68, remains unbroken.

England need a wicket and it looks like they are going to turn to Sophie Ecclestone again.

This partnership needs breaking - it seems obvious. When is the wicket-taker Sophie Ecclestone going to come back for another little spell?

Lauren Bell nearly caught the rebound, it could have been spectacular.

It looks like she landed quite hard on her knees.

  10. dropped catch

Kapp dropped on 36published at 35.3 overs

    SA 185-3

So nearly the breakthrough for England!

A paddle-sweep from Marizanne Kapp off Charlie Dean but it comes off the top edge and there is half a chance for Lauren Bell at short fine leg.

I don't think anybody else on the field gets close but Bell's height means she is able to stretch and get a hand to it.

The ball pops out, though, and what would have been a brilliant catch has to go down as a drop.

  11. How's stat?!published at 11:43 GMT 29 October

    Rufus Bullough

England have bowled very straight in this middle phase of the innings. 36% of their balls since the 11th over would have hit the stumps - the highest figure in the middle overs of any game of the competition.

  12. SA 182-3published at 35 overs

South Africa are doing a very good job of keeping the scoreboard moving.

Nine from that over and they have not allowed as much as a dot ball since midway through the 32nd over.

  13. SA 178-3published at 34.2 overs

Long hop from Alice Capsey and Laura Wolvaardt pulls it past square leg for four.

    She moves into the 90s...

If England can keep South Africa to 250 they will be very happy. They would back themselves to chase that on this surface.

  15. Postpublished at 11:38 GMT 29 October

Well, looking at that stat, it seems like the plan for England's bowlers against Laura Wolvaardt should be pretty clear.

    Just bowl straight.

Laura Wolvaardt has not been fazed by the wickets falling around her. England will be keen to get rid of her but they will be happy with where they are at.

  18. drinks break

    SA 173-3published at 34 overs

    Wolvaardt 88, Kapp 32

Five singles follow that six to start the over. Another good set for South Africa and it's time for drinks.

The fifty partnership is up and England could do with another wicket pretty soon.

    Pressure on the England off-spinner.
