In the end there was no tense finale:

Quinton de Kock's 97 not out led Kolkata Knight Riders to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Chasing 152, De Kock batted throughout, timing the ball well on a slow pitch to hit eight fours and six sixes in his 61 balls.

He went on after former England all-rounder and fellow opener Moeen Ali was run out for five from 12 balls.

England quick Jofra Archer, who conceded the worst figures in IPL history in the Royals opening-game defeat, started better in an opening two-over spell of 0-15.

But Archer returned with only 17 needed from 18 balls and De Kock struck a four and two sixes to secure victory with 15 balls to spare. Archer finished with 0-33 from 2.3 overs.

He had earlier struck two late sixes in the Royals 151-9 - a score which always looked below par.

They lost regular wickets - Dhruv Jurel the top-scorer with 33 - and struggled to score against KKR's spinners.

India international Varun Chakravarthy took 2-17 while Moeen returned figures of 2-23 on his KKR debut.

After defeat in their opening game, KKR earned their first victory of the season but the Royals remain winless.

This one could go to the wire:

    • Kolkata Knight Riders need a further 82 runs from 60 balls after reaching 70-1 in pursuit of 152.
    • Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali opened the batting for KKR but struggled for five from 12 balls before being run out.
    • England bowler Jofra Archer, who conceded 0-76 in Rajasthan's opening match - the worst figures in IPL history, fared batter in an opening two-over spell of 0-15.
    • Since then the Rajasthan spin has been hard to hit but South Africa's Quinton to de Kock and Indian veteran Ajinkya Rahane remain on 45 and 18 not out respectively.

    • Moeen finished with 2-23 and fellow spinner Varun Chakravarthy 2-17.
    • Royals sent in Shubham Dubey as their impact substitute but he managed only nine and Shimron Hetmyer followed for seven. The Royals lost 5-56 in the middle overs.
    • England bowler Jofra Archer did hit two sixes in his 16 late on to boost the score and will be crucial as his side defend the total next.

It has been a tricky start for hosts Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders.

    • They are 76-4 after 10 overs on what looks a decent pitch in Guwahati.
    • Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson put on 33 for the opening wicket until Samson was yorked by seamer Vaibhav Arora.
    • Riyan Parag followed to Varun Chakravarthy for 25 and then Moeen Ali had India international Jaiswal caught at long-on for 29.
    • Moeen, on his KKR debut, has 1-9 from two overs while India's Champions Trophy-winner Chakravarthy has 2-13, also adding the wicket of Wanindu Hasaranga.
