  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.3 overs

    Brook c Bracewell b Duffy 6 (Eng 31-4)

Nicked to second slip! This one wasn't a big drive or a wild swipe. Harry Brook looked to be trying to run it down through the gully but only guides the ball into the hands of Michael Bracewell.

England are in a sorry mess again. Brook puffs his cheeks on the way off.

  2. Eng 30-3published at 6.1 overs

Here's a small win for England as Rachin Ravindra manages to toss the ball over the boundary rope while picking it up just inside to give Jacob Bethell a freebie boundary.

Sure the factor of batting first at this time of the year in New Zealand should be taken into account. But maybe by the batters not us...

  4. Eng 26-3published at 6 overs

I know it's late. I know New Zealand are good and have a fine record at home. But it really has not been pretty from England.

This England team is pathetic. They leave their brains behind when they go out to bat. Can someone not tell them that this game is played with your head

Harry Brook plays a shaky stroke and almost nicks off to add to the pain.

More of the same from England. Balls seaming away and a misjudgment from Ben Duckett and that is an excellent catch by Rachin Ravindra. It's deja vu for the tourists.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.2 overs

    Duckett c Ravindra b Duffy 8 (Eng 17-3)

    Make it stop.

Halloween was yesterday but this is horrible. Ben Duckett tries to pull a ball that's back of a length and he slices a catch up to mid-on.

His miserable series ends and England have lost their top three early again.

  9. Eng 17-2published at 4 overs

Skipper Brook, who asked whether his batting line-up should have "gone harder" in defeat in the first game, is a little more circumspect through the rest of the over.

  10. Eng 15-2published at 3.2 overs

Harry Brook has come out at number four - a place higher than the previous two matches.

He has a massive swing at his first delivery.

Zak Foulkes with that late inswinging seam movement again does for Joe Root.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3.1 overs

    Root lbw b Foulkes 2 (Eng 15-2)

Deary me. This series really is turning into a shocker. Joe Root goes now as he gets a nip-backer from Zak Foulkes which pins him bang in front.

He briefly thinks about reviewing before deciding it's not worth it.

  13. Eng 15-1published at 3 overs

A solid start from Andy and Rahul...

After four dots Ben Duckett swings a full ball from Jacob Duffy over the short square boundary.

This is now his highest score of the tour.

  17. Eng 9-1published at 2 overs

    Duckett 2, Root 2

The optimists would say this gives Joe Root chance for more time in the middle. The pessimists would say it has exposed him when the ball is zipping around and makes it harder.

    You choose.

It was a fine edge. It was wide enough for Jamie Smith to know he had got an edge on it but was desperately hoping the technology would be on his side.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.4 overs

    Smith c Latham b Foulkes 5 (Eng 7-1)

Urgh. That's a pretty ugly innings from Jamie Smith. He got that boundary away but there were some big swipes either side.

Zak Foulkes found just a bit of extra bounce and that was enough to take the edge as Smith attempted a cut.

    Smith is shaking his head....

    ...but there's a spike.
