  1. KKR's play-off hopes hit by damaging defeat by CSKpublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 7 May

Kolkata Knight Riders' hopes of reaching the Indian Premier League play-offs suffered a significant blow as the 2024 champions were upset by Chennai Super Kings.

Defending 180, KKR reduced already-eliminated CSK to 60-5 inside the powerplay in their chase.

Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube carefully rebuilt before the game swung when South African Brevis was dropped on 20 from 16 balls, at which stage the score was 93-5.

The ball burst through Angkrish Raghuvanshi's hands at long-on and went for six - and Brevis followed by striking two more sixes and three fours in an over that cost 30.

He was caught for 52 from 25 balls two overs later but Dube continued until the penultimate over for 45.

He was caught trying to hit out to leave 10 to get eight from eight balls but MS Dhoni finished unbeaten on 17 as a two-wicket win was sealed with two balls to spare.

  2. CSK five down in pursuit of 180 against KKRpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 7 May

It has been another tough batting day for Chennai Super Kings.

Despite 31 from 11 balls by debutant Urvil Patel, they are 93-5 after 10 overs in pursuit of 180 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Harshit Rana has taken two wickets while former England all-rounder Moeen Ali bowled New Zealand's Devon Conway for a two-ball duck.

CSK's hopes rest with Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube. They are 20 and 12 respectively.

It looks an even game after Kolkata Knight Riders post 179-6 having opted to bat first.

Ajinkya Rahane made 48, Andre Russell 38 and Manish Pandey 36 not out but regular wickets - Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad took 4-31 - meant KKR never fully broke free.

Sri Lanka seamer Matheesha Pathirana also bowled a good final over which only cost six singles.

It should be a good chase. Realistically, KKR need to win to maintain hopes of reaching the play-offs.

While it is not win or bust for defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, they really need to beat Chennai Super Kings today if they want to reach the play-off stages.

They are sixth in the standings and will still be a point adrift even if they do take the points.

Their opponents Chennai Super Kings have already been eliminated. They are playing for pride and with a view to next season.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane has won the toss and taken the slightly unusual decision of batting first.

Sam Curran, who made 88 two games ago, has been left out by CSK but Moeen Ali is in the KKR starting line-up.

Miss yesterday's IPL match? It was an IPL epic with an extraordinary finale.

It looked like rain was going to deny Gujarat Titans but, with moments to go before the cut-off and after the clock had gone beyond midnight, the match resumed for one final over.

Gujarat needed 15 - Mumbai Indians still heavy favourites - and scrambled home off the final ball.

Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya even had a shot at a run-out to force a super over but missed.
