Gerwyn Price won his third Grand Slam of Darts title by beating Peter Wright 16-8 in the final in Wolverhampton.

It was a dominant display by world champion Price, who never lost the lead during Sunday's match.

The 'Iceman' has now won all three finals he has contested at the Aldersley Leisure Village.

"I'm glad to get the win and I... flew out of the blocks. Peter wasn't really at the races today but I put him under a lot of pressure," said Price.

"I seem to find that extra gear in the semis and finals and I did today. Winning tournaments and majors gives confidence, and I'm full of confidence now and the main thing in this game is confidence.

"This is the best time to find my form and I'm concentrating on the Players Championship Finals now next weekend in Minehead and then onto the Worlds."

Price walked out with the crowd against him but soon quietened the arena with a 140 checkout to win the opening leg and never looked back.

The Welshman capitalised on a Wright miss to break and take the second leg.

Price led 4-1 at the first session break with a superb 100% on his doubles and a 104 average.

World Cup of Darts champion Wright took six darts to break Price's throw in the seventh leg but it was Price - who said he wanted to be more clinical after his 16-9 semi-final win over James Wade - won six legs on the trot to lead 10-3.

Wright held his throw in the 14th leg to stop the run of legs by Price, but the Scot could not close the gap despite a brilliant 10-dart leg to hold and win the 16th leg and bring the score to 11-5.

It looked like the score might have matched the 2019 final which Price won 16-6, but Price missed chances to win the match at 15-6 and Wright threw a huge 155 to win the 23rd leg.

However, Price sealed the win on double 12 with a 14 dart leg to win his sixth title of the year and takes home the £125,000 winner's prize.

Price has now won seven televised titles and will go into the 2022 World Championship as the number one seed for the first time.
