Rob Cross beat record 14-time champion Phil Taylor to win the 2018 final
Former champion Rob Cross is through to the third round of the PDC World Darts Championship after winning at Alexandra Palace on Friday.
The 32-year-old Englishman, currently sixth in the PDC order of merit, beat compatriot Scott Williams 3-1.
Cross will now face two-time runner-up Mervyn King in the last 32.
"This place will always be special to me. This is the holy grail," said Cross, runner-up at last month's Players Championship Finals.
"I think I dealt with the big moments a little bit more, but I probably put that down to experience. I feel good. I feel like I'm getting better and I'm enjoying it again."
Top-10 seeds Jonny Clayton and Danny Noppert also progressed comfortably, with Clayton beating Danny van Trijp 3-0 and the Welshman will next face Brendan Dolan, who claimed a 3-1 win against Jimmy Hendriks.
Noppert enjoyed a 3-1 victory over David Cameron so the Dutchman will face Scotland's Alan Soutar in the third round, while Chris Dobey set up a meeting with two-time champion Garry Anderson by beating Martijn Kleermaker 3-0.
Germany's Martin Schindler, the number 29 seed, won 3-1 against Martin Lukeman, and will next meet last year's runner-up Michael Smith.
Elsewhere on Friday, Ross Smith beat Darius Labanauskas 3-1 and Joe Cullen also claimed a 3-1 win over Ricky Evans.
