Aled Sion Davies: Para-athlete aims to make history in 2022

Three-time double world champion Aled Sion Davies says he wants to reach an able-bodied final at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Davies, 26, defended his discus and shot put titles at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London.

"I want to make a Commonwealth Games able-bodied, get to the final and be the first ever para [athlete] to do it in a throwing event," Davies said.

"There's a long way to go in terms of what I want to achieve."

Davies cannot compete at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as his F42 disciplines are not in the programme.

But the 2016 Paralympic shot put champion hopes to start competing in able-bodied events in 2018 in the hope of making the 2022 Games.

"I've got to have something to keep pushing for," he told BBC Sport Wales.

"The next two years I'm going to be pushing to be competitive alongside the able-bodied boys and get a few titles.

"I want to see how far I can take the event and how far I can throw that little heavy ball."
