Winter Paralympics: Great Britain miss out on wheelchair curling semi-finals

Great Britain failed to reach the wheelchair curling semi-finals at the Winter Paralympics as their campaign ended with a 9-3 loss to China.

Norway's 7-6 victory over Slovakia and GB's 5-4 defeat by South Korea earlier on Thursday confirmed Aileen Neilson's rink would not finish in the top four.

Britain won five of their 11 matches and ended sixth in the table.

China play Canada and South Korea meet Norway in Friday's semi-finals, with the medal matches on Saturday.

"We came here with high hopes of getting a medal. Our first goal was getting to the play-offs and we'd have liked to have finished off with a win but we didn't," GB skip Neilson told BBC Sport.

"It's really disappointing, we've worked so hard with so much support from people back home.

"It will take us a while to get over it and it's a learning experience."

GB, who won bronze at Sochi four years ago, were swept away by a confident Chinese side, who recorded their ninth victory of the Games.

The defeat by Korea earlier in the day had left Britain needing Norway to lose to Slovakia if they were to have any chance of progressing.

But Norway won both of their final two matches in dramatic fashion - the winning stone in each of their victories over the USA and Slovakia required the use of the measuring device.

It looked like Slovakia were going to hand GB a lifeline as they took a 6-3 lead in the sixth end, but Norway levelled up and won it in an extra end.

Elsewhere, rivals Canada and the USA will face off in a highly anticipated para-ice hockey final on Sunday.

Canada beat South Korea 7-0 in their semi-final.

Defending champions USA thrashed Italy 10-1 in the other semi - although it was the first goal the Americans have conceded at these Games, having scored 38 across four matches.
