Tom Daley wins solo silver at Mexico World Series event

World champion Tom Daley recorded his highest international score to win silver in the men's 10m platform at the World Series event in Mexico.

Daley made up for finishing fifth in partnership with Peter Waterfield in the 10m synchro by scoring 562.80 solo.

His new four-and-a-half somersault dive helped him to the biggest score of the final, with over 105 points.

China's Bo Qiu won gold with 582.45, Mexico's Rommel Pacheco took bronze and Waterfield finished fifth with 512.

Rebecca Gallantree and Megan Sylvester secured fifth place in the 10m synchro final while Ben Swain continued his comeback from injury and with partner Nick Robinson-Baker finished fifth in the 3m synchro.

Daley's new dive earned a 10 from the judges and saw a marked improvement on Saturday's competition.

He and Waterfield had cllinched a memorable victory in Sheffield last week in only their second international meet as a pair.

But their partnership suffered a setback early on Saturday as they finished fifth this time out with a score of 402.75.

Home pair Ivan Garcia and German Sanchez took advantage of the absence of the Chinese to win gold.

Daley admitted on Twitter that it had "not been a great competition".

In the women's 3m synchro, a poor fourth dive cost Gallantree and Alicia Blagg as they finished last in an eight-team field.
