Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield have withdrawn from the men's 10m synchro at the National Diving Championships in Leeds which begin on Friday.

Both divers are expected to compete in the men's 10m individual competition

Daley's father lost his battle with cancer a fortnight ago and a statement from British Swimming said preparations for the event have been difficult.

"The pair will now focus on next month's World Championships in Shanghai," added the statement.

Daley tweeted on Friday morning, external: "Competitions start today but I start competing tomorrow."

Daley's father Rob was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2006 and consequently had 80% of a fist-sized tumour removed.

He had been in remission until a routine health check in 2010 discovered a tumour had returned.

Rob Daley's funeral took place on Wednesday, after which Daley tweeted: "What a day! You are my biggest source of motivation dad! I will make you proud!"
