Olympic gold medallist Scott Brash gained a podium finish on the opening day of the London International Horse Show's showjumping schedule at Olympia.

Scotland's Brash finished second aboard Bon Ami in the Christmas Speed Stakes with a time of 52.41 seconds, 0.38secs behind Sweden's Peder Fredricsson.

Brash helped Great Britain to Olympic team gold at London 2012 with Nick Skelton, Ben Maher and Peter Charles.

Saturday's World Cup class, won last year by Maher, is the feature event.

Maher finished fourth this time with Milena, clocking 54.73 seconds, while Essex-based Laura Renwick was third on Rollercoaster.

The Welcome Speed Stakes went to France's Roger Yves Bost and Castle Forbes Cosma, with Renwick taking second spot on Oz de Breve.

Ireland's London 2012 individual bronze medallist Cian O'Connor took victory in the Christmas Pudding Stakes.

Riding chestnut gelding Splendor, O'Connor won a seven-horse jump-off, beating Great Britain's Tina Fletcher, who was back in action following a serious ankle injury, and Hello Sailor by 2.5 seconds.

"You take chances you wouldn't normally take at this show," O'Connor said.

"After the turn to the double I thought 'Did I really do that?' But this place, and the fantastic crowds, make you do that."
