Charlotte Dujardin wins European individual dressage title

Double Olympic gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin has won her first European individual dressage title after a stunning recovery in Herning, Denmark.

Dujardin, 28, rebounded from a mistake during her grand prix special test to triumph aboard Valegro.

She scored 85.699%, to finish ahead of Helen Langehanenberg and defending European champion Adelinde Cornelissen.

"I can't believe it, I'm very emotional. I had an amazing ride from Valegro," Dujardin told BBC Sport.

"I made an error, of course, so I wasn't sure if it was going to cost me the gold."

Dujardin was not the only rider to slip up, with Cornelissen making a similar mistake and Langehanenberg also briefly going wrong when she incorporated part of her grand prix team routine into her test.

On Thursday, Dujardin had set a new world record of 85.942% as Great Britain finished third in the team dressage behind new champions Germany and runners-up Holland.

Dujardin is set to compete in Sunday's freestyle to music test, when she will perform her London 2012 routine, featuring the song Land Of Hope And Glory and chimes from Big Ben.
