Tamworth turn to caretaker manager Dale Belford

Tamworth's 43-year-old caretaker boss Dale Belford is set to make his first start of the season in Saturday's relegation decider with Forest Green.

Belford, the father of Bury goalkeeper Cameron, came on for the final minute in last week's 4-2 defeat by Wrexham after Louis Connor was injured.

With Liam Mitchell suspended, Belford is the club's only recognised keeper.

After appealing for dispensation to bring in a keeper, the Lambs have so far been turned down.

Belford was only included on the bench to make up the numbers at the Racecourse Ground.

But he was called into action in the last minute after Connor's hamstring injury - and Tamworth claim that he is in no fit state to play a full competitive match.

Tamworth had considered fielding skipper Tom Marshall in goal, but are already missing three defenders through suspension.

Aaron Mitchell saw red against Wrexham, while Michael Wylde and Richard Tait were both sent off after the final whistle in last Saturday's defeat by fellow strugglers Southport.

The Lambs go into the final Blue Square Bet Premier fixture of the season likely to need a win to keep them in the division.
