Barnsley have confirmed the signings of Colchester United midfielder David Perkins and Chesterfield striker Craig Davies on two-year contracts.

Perkins, 28, and Davies, 25, will officially move to Oakwell on 1 July.

Perkins turned down a new contact with the U's to try his luck in the Championship with the Tykes.

Davies was the Spireites' 25-goal top scorer as they won the League Two title in 2010/11 but his contract expires later this summer.

Barnsley boss Keith Hill was delighted to land his first two signings since taking charge and said he was excited about the prospect of helping Davies, who has already had 10 clubs, to fulfil his potential.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "There's still a lot of untapped potential in Craig, he's still only 25 and feels he has a lot to prove.

"He's keen to build on last season and perhaps prove a few of his doubters wrong.

"I think Craig has done his homework on us too. He knows we have a reputation of developing players and getting the best from them. This is a really exciting acquisition for us."

Of Perkins, Hill told the club website:, external "He's a little pocket rocket. I'm sure the fans will appreciate his energy and style of play."
