Isle of Man celebrate during their 4-0 win over Western Isles

The Isle of Man's women's football team have become the first British Isles ladies side to reach the final of the Island Games.

Manager Keith Lunt's side dominated a 4-0 victory over the Western Isles on Thursday and were 2-0 up at half-time after two penalties from Eleanor Gawne.

Sarah O'Reilly made it 3-0 on the hour before Gillian Christian added the fourth, ten minutes later.

The Manx team will face Aland in the final after they beat Greenland 6-0.

Aland are the reigning champions after winning on home soil two years ago.

After victories over Gibraltar and Greenland in their group, the Isle of Man have now scored 16 goals and conceded just one in their three matches.

Manager Keith Lunt told BBC Isle of Man he was delighted with his side's progress: "It was a very good performance today.

"We've got nothing to fear now all the pressure will be on Aland and we can just play our game. It is great that we are already guaranteed a silver medal but we want the gold."

Meanwhile the Isle of Man's men's side finished in eighth place after they were beaten on penalties by Menorca in their play-off match.
