Hereford United sign Yeovil defender Stefan Stam

Hereford have completed the siging of Yeovil defender Stefan Stam on a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old Dutchman was on the losing side just once in 10 appearances for the Bulls after originally joining them on loan from Yeovil in March.

Stam's main motivation in making the move to Edgar Street is the chance of regular first-team football.

"That's what I was looking for the most as a two-year contract means I can get fit and play my games," he said.

"Last year was horrible as I wasn't fit for a lot of the time so I just want to get a decent start here and get some games under my belt," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"I enjoyed myself here last year. For me personally, we only lost one so that went well. There were a few clean sheets in there too so I hope we can do the same thing again.

"I just hope Hereford can get a better start than last year as that would improve the season."

Stam admitted that there was some interest from other clubs but that Hereford were always his preferred option.

"There was a few things going on," he added. "I had a few phone calls but nothing really.

"I just wanted to move here and I don't have to move from Bristol so that was good."

Yeovil signed the former Oldham man in 2009, after a spell playing for Ermis Aradippou in Cyprus.
