Czech midfielder Marcel Gecov joins Fulham on two-year deal

Fulham have signed Slovan Liberec midfielder Marcel Gecov on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old impressed as the Czech Republic reached the semi-finals of the European Under-21 Championship in June.

Manager Martin Jol said: "He is a very talented player. He is relatively young, aggressive, and I am happy he is on board."

Gecov becomes Fulham's third summer signing after Roma defender John Arne Riise, external and goalkeeper Csaba Somogyi, external.

Jol added: "He is a very talented player. A good midfielder and played against England in the Under-21 European Championship, external. He got two assists so he is full of confidence.

"He knows he can play against English teams and that helps. He had a very good tournament and was very decisive in games.

"That gave us confidence and he has been on our radar for at least a year. The Fulham scouts knew him and had very good reports on him."

Fulham play Crusaders in the second leg of their Europa League second qualifying round on Thursday, leading 3-1 from the first leg, external. If they progress they will play either Domzale of Slovenia or Croatian side RNK Split in the next round.

They start their Premier League season at home to Aston Villa on 13 August.
