Oldham hope to update the facilities at Boundary Park

Oldham Athletic look set to redevelop Boundary Park following discussions with the local council.

The Latics previously said they were looking into leaving after plans to build a new stadium were rejected.

Chairman Simon Corney said: "We were bitterly disappointed at not being able to develop a stadium at Failsworth.

"We believe now that we have a chance to redevelop the current ground, and we have taken steps to implement this and secure the club's future."

After having their bid to build a brand-new 12,000 seater stadium in Failsworth were rejected chief executive Alan Hardy stated the club were looking into the possibility of leaving the borough.

In April, the club only committed to playing at Boundary Park for the forthcoming season.

But this latest step suggests the Latics intend to stay put and invest in their current facilities.

"This has involved complex arrangements with regard to club and land ownerships and we still have a long way to go," Corney added.

"If we get this initial support from the council next week, we will have a platform upon which to build and which we can take forward in our discussions with a funding partner for a redeveloped and sustainable stadium.

"We hope that this relationship continues and that we can work with this administration to deliver what is needed."
