Kilkenny has signed a three-year deal at Bristol City

Midfielder Neil Kilkenny says he is good enough to earn a starting place at Bristol City.

The 25-year-old arrived at Ashton Gate this summer after a three-year stint with Leeds United.

"The manager's brought me in and I've had an injury but I'm fully fit now so I want to be given the chance from the start," he told BBC Radio Bristol

"I can bring results. You saw last year that I got results, and I want to do that here if I'm given the chance."

The Australia international opted to join Keith Millen's side rather than signing a new deal offered to him at Elland Road, but admits he has found it difficult to move clubs.

"It's been hard moving to a different city and then having an [ankle] injury," he added.

"It was a massive wrench to leave there because it's a massive club and I really enjoyed my time there.

"I made nearly 150 appearances in three years so hopefully I can do that here given the chance."

Bristol City finished 15th in the Championship last season and have struggled to make signings this summer, with Kilkenny being one of only four new arrivals.

He is under no illusions about the task ahead of City, but hopes Millen's belief they can challenge for promotion becomes a reality.

"The manager says so, so hopefully we can [get promoted] but it's going to be a hard season and we haven't brought in many players, only four, but we'll see how it goes," he said.
