Bristol Rovers sign up defender Danny Woodards

Woodards became a free agent in the summer after leaving MK Dons

Bristol Rovers have signed defender Danny Woodards on a one-year contract, with the option of a further year.

The 27-year-old left MK Dons at the end of last season after turning down a new deal with the League One club.

"Danny is going to be a massive help to the squad, and he is a great addition to what we already have here," said Rovers manager Paul Buckle.

"There were two or three interested in him, but the chairman has worked quickly to bring him here," he added.

"He is a utility player who can play in a number of positions, which is something we are not really blessed with at the moment."

Woodards started his career as a youth player at Chelsea before spells at Wycombe, Exeter and Crewe.

He joined MK Dons in July 2009 and made 79 appearances.

"I know him from my time at Exeter," added Buckle. "From there he went to Crewe and I have followed his progress over the years.

"Anyone blessed with the sort of pace Danny has is going to be a great addition to our squad."
