Swansea City have completed the signings of defenders Fede Bessone and Darnel Situ on transfer deadline day.

Bessone was released from his contract with Leeds United to seal a return to Swansea on a two-year deal. Both are subject to Premier League approval.

"I can't express how delighted I am to be back here," Bessone told Swansea's website.

The Swans have also completed the signing of 19-year old French defender Situ on a two-year contract from Lens.

The Welsh club are also hoping to confirm the signing of Fulham's Algerian defender Rafik Halliche, also subject to Premier League clearance, within the next 24 hours.

Algerian international Halliche has played just twice for Fulham since joining the Craven Cottage club in August 2010.

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers had spoken of the need to add to his defensive options with Alan Tate out for most of the season following a freak golfing accident.

The versatile defender is set to be out for six months after breaking his left leg when he was a passenger in a golf buggy that lost control on Sunday.

"I wanted to bring in two players in that area anyway for that supporting cover but Alan's injury has made it a priority," said Rodgers.

With Tate out injured, the 27-year-old Bessone will provide competition for Wales left-back Neil Taylor.

The Argentina-born player returns to the Welsh club on a two-year deal after he was released from his contract with Leeds.

"When the call came from Swansea I was so excited," said Bessone.

"I just got into my car and drove straight down because I have such a good feeling for the club and I had a fantastic time here."

Bessone was originally signed by former manager Roberto Martinez from Espanyol on a free transfer in June 2008.

He made 36 league appearances for the Swans during his two seasons at the Liberty Stadium before joining Leeds on a three-year deal in June 2010.

However his opportunities at Elland Road were limited, making only six league appearances and he spent a loan spell at Charlton Athletic.

Swansea left it late to complete transfer deadline day deals for Bessone and highly rated French defender Darnel Situ from Lens.

The Swans have agreed to pay the French club £250,000 plus adds-ons for the central defender, who has represented his country at various youth levels

Situ, who can also play as a holding midfielder, recently spent time on trial at Newcastle United and scored in a 5-0 pre-season victory over Gateshead.

"I am excited to be here," said Situ. "I will work hard and do the best I can every day on the training field to be on the pitch on the weekends.

"There was interest from the likes of Newcastle and Fulham, but Swansea were the ones who wanted me the most and I'm delighted to be here."

Swansea had also enquired about Watford defender Adrian Mariappa and Middlesbrough's Matthew Bates.
