Southampton have signed Celtic defender Jos Hooiveld on loan until January.

The 28-year-old Dutchman played in his homeland, Austria and Finland before moving to Celtic in January 2010 and ended last season on loan in Denmark with FC Copenhagen.

He told the club website: , external"I can already see the big picture that's building here so it's nice to be a part of that.

"Everyone breathes football. I think I'll fit in here as well."

Hooiveld failed to become a regular starter after joining the Glasgow club for £1.4m from AIK Stockholm in 2010.

He was farmed out to Copenhagen in January, but the Danish club did not take up the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the loal deal.

Now he will hope to aid Southampton's bid for the Championship title.

Hooiveld started his senior career with Heerenveen in his homeland and had spells with Kapfenberg, Inter Turku before joining AIK.
