Taylor turned down an offer to join Newport in the summer

Forest Green Rovers have signed striker Matty Taylor on a two-year contract.

The 21-year-old, arrives at the New Lawn from Southern League Division One South & West side North Leigh, for whom he scored 40 goals last season.

Neither club have confirmed any fee for Taylor, who signed a new deal with the Oxfordshire side, external in July.

"We've watched him for a long time - he's a very good player outside the box, never mind inside the box," boss Dave Hockaday told BBC Gloucestershire.

"He's scored nearly 80 goals in two seasons so he can score, he can play, he's very sharp and he's gelled really well with the boys.

"There's been a lot of interest from clubs above us in other leagues but he likes what he sees here - he recognises we've got some momentum and he wants to be a part of that.

"I believe he can be a big asset for Forest Green Rovers."
