Aberdeen have signed New Zealand World Cup striker Rory Fallon on a two-year deal after the free agent impressed on trial at Pittodrie.

Dons manager Craig Brown views the 29-year-old as a player who can help solve his club's scoring problems.

Fallon, who recently had a short spell with Yeovil, will be in contention for a place in the squad for Saturday's match at home to Kilmarnock.

Aberdeen have only scored twice in their opening seven league games.

He had signed a one-month contract with Yeovil after leaving Plymouth Argyle, where he played alongside Aberdeen midfielder Kari Arnason, in the summer.

But he was released before the transfer window closed at the end of August despite having played all five of the League One side's games this season.

Fallon represented England as a youth but switched to the country of his birth in 2009.

He has won 11 caps and scored the crucial goal in a play-off against Bahrain that took New Zealand to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The son of former national coach Kevin has spent his senior career in English football, starting with Barnsley after coming through their youth ranks before moves to Swindon Town and Swansea City before joining Plymouth in 2007.

He also had loan spells with Shrewsbury Town, Yeovil and Ipswich Town.
