Duffy relishes competition for places at Cheltenham

Cheltenham Town striker Darryl Duffy says he wants to give boss Mark Yates a selection dilemma up front.

Yates has swapped between Duffy, Jeff Goulding and Huddersfield loanee Jimmy Spencer this season.

Duffy's brace in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Wycombe in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy makes him top scorer with five.

"It's a good thing for the club and a difficult job for the manager but that's the way we want it," the 27-year-old told BBC Gloucestershire.

"You want competition for places, you don't want players getting sloppy as results will start going against you.

"We don't talk about it but we are all strikers and we all want to be top scorer.

"Strikers always have a laugh together and we have a strikers' union - we always stick together.

"If we can continue this from now until the end of the season then it should be a successful season."

Duffy has made seven starts and three substitute appearances since his arrival at Whaddon Road in the summer and all five of his goals have come away from home.

"I thought about that myself at times and it will be nice to score at home eventually," he added.

"I've had a few chances but I think the way we play away from home, catching teams on the break, suits me better."
