David Beckham 'will know when to quit' football

David Beckham says he can still perform at the highest level and that he will know when it is time to quit football.
Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Beckham, 36, also restated his aim to represent the Great Britain football team at the 2012 Olympics.
"People have been saying [I am too old] for the last 10 or 15 years and I've still continued to play for my country," he told BBC Sport.
"Right now, I feel fit and still love playing, so I'm not finishing yet."
Beckham said he was "flattered" by reports linking him to top European clubs but that he was focused on helping LA Galaxy attain success in Major League Soccer.
Paris Saint-Germain are said to be keen to sign Beckham, who told BBC sport editor David Bond that "certain clubs in the Premiership" have also shown an interest.
But Beckham, whose five-year deal with Galaxy runs out in the next few weeks, said: "At 36-years-old, to still have that interest in me is an honour, I'm very flattered.
"But right now I'm a Galaxy player and I will continue to be a Galaxy player until we win the league - the MLS Cup - and then we'll see. I haven't even sat down and thought about what my options are yet.
"It's always difficult making that decision about stopping but I don't think I'm going to have that problem. I think I'm going to know when to finish, but that's not yet.
"As long as I feel I can play at a high level, then I'll continue. Once that changes, I'm going to have to accept I need to stop."
Galaxy's owners have indicated a new deal may be on offer to the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder - and Galaxy captain Landon Donovan says he expects Beckham to be around next season.
"We are all assuming that he is going to be back," said Donovan. "I know nothing has been said, or nothing is official, but I think he loves it here, his family loves it here and he has been arguably our best player for long stretches during the season.
"He looks as good now as he did even five years ago when he first came here so I think we are under the assumption he is coming back and, if something changes, we have to adjust accordingly."
Galaxy host the New York Red Bulls on Thursday in the second leg of their Western Conference semi-final.
Galaxy hold a 1-0 lead from the first game in New York.
Beckham also says he might be interested in buying a team in the United States when he gives the game up.
He added: "I have the option and it's something I probably will do. Obviously I have to wait until I finish playing.
"I want to be part of something that is going to grow and I believe that this sport is going to grow."
You can watch David Bond's report from Los Angeles on the BBC's Six and Ten O'Clock News on Wednesday. Football Focus will also broadcast an extended Beckham feature during Saturday's show.
