Norwich City midfielder urges Grant Holt-Steve Morison battle

Norwich City midfielder Bradley Johnson has challenged team-mates Steve Morison and Grant Holt to continue their battle for a place in the side.

The Canaries have lined up with a lone striker in their last six games, with Morison the preferred starter.

But Holt has made a goalscoring impact from the bench in his last two outings.

"He's come on in the last two games and got goals and it's down to those two to keep each other out of the team," Johnson told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"It's good to have competition in the team, and they both deserve a place, but they can't both play if we're going to play with a lone striker."

Holt, Norwich's top scorer for the past two seasons, has rescued points against Liverpool in the past fortnight.

And while the 30-year-old has been limited to four starts this term, Johnson says the striker is an integral part of the squad.

"He came on last week and got us a point," he said. "And again he proved how important he is to the team by coming on and getting us a point.

"Anyone can drop their head but in this team everyone wants to win for each other and the manager.

"Grant proved that by coming on, working his socks off and getting his rewards.

"He is biding his time, Holty. He's a great player and he knows how important he is to this squad."

The strikers have both experienced a dramatic rise through the leagues in the past two and a half years. In 2008-09 Holt was playing in League Two for Shrewsbury and Morison in the Blue Square Premier for Stevenage.
