Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has given his backing to goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski after his error in the draw with Blackpool.

The 24-year-old Pole allowed Callum McManaman's shot to go under his body to give the Seasiders the lead before Rickie Lambert notched a late leveller, external.

Adkins told BBC Radio Solent: "Bart is outstanding in training. I've got a lot of confidence in him.

"He'll be a stronger character and a stronger person for what happened."

Bialkowski was starting his first league match in two years after first choice custodian Kelvin Davis was ruled out with a groin injury.

The Saints travel to neighbours Portsmouth on Sunday and the former Scunthorpe boss admitted he was unsure who would be in goal for his side.

"Kelvin was close to being fit for today, so we'll have to wait and see. We've got eight days until that great game," he added.

The draw with Blackpool brought an end to the Saints' run of 21 successive home wins in all competitions.
