Portsmouth legend Alan Knight is predicting a close encounter when Pompey host south-coast rivals Southampton on Sunday.
The Hampshire teams have not met in the league since April 2005, external.
"I see it being a very good game. Saints have been unbelievable this season and Pompey have come into a bit of form," Knight told BBC Radio Solent, external.
"I see it being a very competitive game. It's the kind of match where form goes out of the window."
Knight continued: "The team that is up for it most on the day is going to take the result.
"From a Portsmouth perspective the fact that Saints are top will put an extra edge on it, not that the game needs it.
"They are going to make sure that whatever happens for Southampton this year they don't have any easy points off them this season."
Knight, who is manager of Blue Square Bet South side Dorchester Town, external, played 801 games for the Fratton Park side.
